For seven years running, decker. has been recording and performing some of the most vital music to be released from America's Southwest. The music is clearly drawn from the land itself—all that is at once comforting, eerie, haunting, healing, harsh and beautiful. He carves something unique out of the essence he grasps in his red rock home of Sedona, Arizona—a land of red clay mountains and vortexes. The music takes on a spiritual mantle, a deeper, ancient calling rooted to the land itself, tapping into the mysticism of old, weird America, divining its power, resurrecting what he sees fit and crafting it into musical odysseys of treachery, redemption, enlightenment and tenacity.

While seemingly possessed by his desert dwellings, decker. has approached his music with a blue-collar ethic, pressing himself to perform 150 shows a year and self-releasing six studio records in the last seven years. The songwriter has been either recording an album or touring in support of one since the fall of 2009 with relentless vigor—surviving a 2012 van rollover on tour, raising a young son and maintaining a relentless show schedule. The 2014 release, Patsy saw decker. make a hardy push to spread his desert lore, touring the U.S. three times over with all the fervor, he says, “of a drowning man.” Magnet raved, “[Decker] bursts with emotion at every edge,” while No Depression declared, “[Decker] combines dark mystic lyrics and off-kilter attitude with taut musicianship and psychedelic romanticism.

With barely a pause to reflect, Decker returned home and wrote what would become his 6th studio album, Snake River Blues, set for release September 23. Inspired by legendary psychedelic blues classics like Muddy Waters’ Electric Mud and Chuck Berry's San Francisco Dues, Snake River Blues is comprised by tales of treachery and conquest, in blues archetypes viewed through decker.’s unique lens. The album signifies growth, while also a departure from his more acoustic and methodic efforts. It harnesses an American desperation, while being simultaneously rife with audacious confidence, grit and focus. Self-described as “psychedelic desert folk,” Snake River Blues is altogether decker.’s tightest and most succinct effort to date.
The Sink Or Swim
The Sink Or Swim
Don't let the seemingly young age of Phoenix, AZ-based The Sink or Swim fool you. While all age 22 or younger, the band has unleashed their music with an earnestness and fury that is non-negotiable. With each member almost imposssibly boasting of nearly a decade of experience, the 4-piece has released two well-received EP's with a 3rd to follow in the summer of 2017, working with producer Michael Beck at SoundVision Studio in Phoenix (Alice Cooper, Dream Theater, Phunk Junkeez, Lydia). The band's recordings and live performance alike have taken their home of Phoenix by storm with local institution JAVA Magazine claiming, "The Sink of Swim have established themselves as one of the brightest and most ambitious acts in the local music scene." The upstarts' poise and vision is no doubt influenced by not only their love of all things rock n' roll but also their collective struggles with adversity - with one member claiming to be an Israeli fugitive for failing to enlist in the IDF, and another being estranged from his father at a young age due to a stint in prison. It is all these factors that inject their upcoming album "Oasis Unknown" with an even darker and heavier landscape than their recent albums. "The songs are all relationship driven," says singer Nate Zeune. "It's about processing the aftermath, coping." To a man, each member of the band claims to have one goal in their musical endeavors: to make people feel something. Says Zeune, "we're so accustomed to instant gratification, to getting a rush all the time that we're all becoming numb. We want to connect to people with our music....and we want to prove that rock n roll isn't dead." The new album will release late-summer 2017 with regional tour dates surrounding the release.
FORESTEATER
FORESTEATER
Foresteater is the moniker and live band of Singer/Songwriter/Multi-Instrumentalist Mikey Pro. Created in 2015 after a dream he had about "a band playing on an island in outer-space surrounded by electric rainbows" Foresteater's debut EP "Nightlife of the Exploding Heads" was released May 6th 2016. It's difficult to place Foresteater's music in one genre but it can be described as "Melodramatic songs with psychedelic harmonies under catchy melodies."
MR. MUDD & MR. GOLD
MR. MUDD & MR. GOLD
Named after a Townes Van Zandt song about a wild game of five card stud, Phoenix's Mr. Mudd & Mr. Gold have been delivering their self-described "two-man bastard child of country, folk, blues, bluegrass and rock" to an ever-growing audience in America's Southwest. Stomping and hollering on stages with the likes of Langhorne Slim, Shovels and Rope, Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band and more, the outfit seems to earnestly and effortlessly embody the spirit of Van Zandt himself in a style all their own. You can call it folk, bluegrass, Appalachia or country; the band seems concerned with little else than making pure music that gets the crowd moving, if a little rowdy while doing it. With the debut release of their self-titled "Mr. Mudd & Mr. Gold" the duo seems hellbent on taking their unique sound to the national stage. And quickly. 39 minutes of barnstormers, the 11-track album features authentic Americana with a few tips of the hat to their influences by way of covers of classic Howlin Wolf, Lightnin' Hopkins and Townes Van Zandt numbers. Recorded at Arixzona's Audioconfusion (Andrew Jackson Jihad) the album runs the gamut from hard-driving banjo-driven melodic folk and dirty suitcase-drum-infused acoustic rock, to haunting a capella numbers and soul-infused updates of 1940s acoustic blues.
The Lonesome Wilderness
The Lonesome Wilderness
The Lonesome Wilderness is a Phoenix-based rock band, formed in 2011. Members include sex-panther Joe Golfen, his time-traveling brother Paul, rocknrolla Andrea Custer and Baron Brian Weis. They originally drew their sound from surf, punk and 1960s influences, but while their backs were turned, some southwestern dust seeped under the door. You can find them playing shows on ramshackle stages in dirt lots, backyards and dark bars.
